ok asha has gone from being ok with mush babyfood to pretty much refusing it. she only wants fingerfood, really i think she wants control over her eating and wants to eat our food. so we've been letting her pretend by giving her a crust of bread or a slice of apple because i know she cant bite it off(only two teeth) but this means she's still not eating for nutrition. so any suggestions for what finger food i can give her that she can actually digest?

i tried diced potato today but the bits were small so she wouldn't choke and too small for her to pick up effectively. i'm thinking of trying soft tofu, i think we're in for messy times. i'm not keen on giviing her bread as there are wheat allergies in the family.

Do any of you have the baby mesh food eater? I have 2, maybe I'm being too over protective? She still chokes nursing, I'm so so so paranoid of choking! I have given her crusty dinner rolls but as soon as it gets soggy, I take it away- and I've given her whole carrots to chomp on but anything else I'm too scared. I'm also interested to see what other foods you guys are giving them.

you'd think after having a 1 yr old swallow and choke on a 5c piece i'd worry about what my 7 month old puts in her mouth but i don't. its silly i know. she seems to find every bit of paper that you could possibly find in our house too. with the bread i do take it away when it gets too mushy, i just really want her to eat. i need some reassurance that it doesn't matter though. it is just practice food right?

its just for practice! im trying to not stress over him getting these 3 meals a day b/c he needs bm more. shane has also choked on stuff a couple times, we watch him so carefully when he eats stuff and i also barely ever let him have finger foods. he choked on mashed potatoes once, i guess they were too thick.

megs we found something that works really well. he eats cinnamon graham crackers really easily. they cruble small enough so he wouldnt choke, they dont get mushy, they are easy for him to hold and he loves them

Asha is back eating mush. i think she just got sick of the same old bland foods so lately i've just been blending whatever we eat for her. so she loves risotto, curry etc now. i switch breakfast between toast which she turns into mush and mush itself.

i have been SO BAD when shane got sick he didnt want to eat anything and his dr said its okay dont force him... well i havent tried to feed him in almost 2 weeks. i just made myself do it today but i feel so bad i havent been doing it. i have been giving him stuff off my plate too though. he is way more interested in anything im eating than whatever babyfood i give him.

Well, all Mohamed wants to do is feed himself, like most of you have said of you LOs. I give him whatever we are having and in between giving him pieces on his high chair tray i pop in a spoonfull of a fruit or veggie. I also noticed that he wants to feed himself more if we are eating too- but if one of us sits down just to feed him i think he forgets that people are supposed to feed themselves... Last night we had chicken, peas and our tofu version of mac and cheese. I put 3 or 4 peas and a few little pieces of chicken on his tray and he mostly pushed them around, but he got a few of them inbetween his little fingers. It's good practice. And like I said, I would just "sneak" a few bites of mushy food in his mouth. Finger feeding works well too, as long as it comes off my plate he'll eat it.
I also liek the self feeders. I will boil some veggies and put it on, or put in raw fruit (except bananas they are so messy and hard to clean out!) He loves it. Also, if it is cold hard fruit (like apple, pear or pineapple) he will bite on it to soothe those teeth/gums.
Does anyone know about that baby yogurt? Or soy stuff for babies? I couldn't find too much on it. For example, we like to drink chocolate soy milk blended with bananas. And since, as you know, whatever you eat baby has to eat, he always wants to try some. I'm not opposed to it because it's very natural, but I don't know about soy...

Oops, I also forgot to mention those teething buscuits by Earths Best- they are packed with vitamins and nutrients and they are whole wheat, mohamed loves eating one of those every couple of days.

the occasional bit of soy really isn't a problem at all. don't know about giving chocolate flavoured soy though.
