I believe The Baby Book covers the first two yrs, and it has been my baby instruction manual through both my boys. It has info on newborns, of course, but also goes into starting solids, walking, the basics of AP, some sleep issues, safe cosleeping, and a little bit of discipline mixed into that as well. Also the basics on childhood illnesses and how to recognize or deal with them. I think it's an invaluable book to have, especially since you do plan to have another baby down the road.
If you're looking for something more long-reaching you might look into The Attachment Parenting Book or The Discipline Book, since you'll be dealing with some of those questions in the next year or so. The Successful Child is also good, but I've always sort of seen it as AP philosophy dressed up to appeal to more "mainstream" parents.

Just chiming in - We loved Dr. Sears's Baby Book. It was my "bible" for a very long time - even after CM turned 6 months. I probably used it more in the beginning, but later it was a great reference book; as Jen says, good information about childhood illnesses, development, TT, etc. All low key. I would love to get some more of his books, but they are not widely available in Hanoi !!! Oh well, we'll be back in the States in just 4 months! Helle
