shane i s6 months old and we just started having this problem about 2 weeks ago. first of all, for the past 4 months he has pretty much refused the left breast for some reason so it produces very little milk. now, when he latches on to the right side, once let down occurs he is sort of pushing away from me and pulling his head back, like maybe the milk is too fast or something?? but anyways it hurts really bad b/c he is stretching my boob out as far as he can and it is itching and burning(the breats and nipple) while he does this. he only nurses for less than 5 minutes so i assume my let down is very fast and a lot of milk, but since he refused the left breast, it has always been liek that. any help?
sounds a little like what my first did. Does he seem hungry after feeding? it could also be a teething thing. it sounds like it could be overactive letdown except isn't it a bit too late for that to develop. not much help here am i.
i think it might be related to teething, he got the two teeth about the smae time this started. hope it ends soon! i dont think he is hungry afterwards.
Hey, you know Mohamed does the same thing sometimes where he only wants the one side and then that side actaully has LESS milk and it is too slow so he gets P.O.ed that it isn't coming out fast enough. I think that is why he might reject the one side to begin with...To correct it, I tried giving him the non-preferred side when he's real sleepy or when he wakes up at night and doesn't notice it as much so that I bring the supply on that side back up and take some pressure off the one that he is always on! Not sure if this is your scenario, but I think the more time on one side, the more painful it will be, and the less milk you'll have, making him frustrated and start to either play, or get fussy and move around. For me the key was trying to get him back to alternating between sides at each feeding. HTH!
