Sleep Issues
« on: December 12, 2006, 05:09:25 AM »

Hello!  I'm so glad I found you all again!  I have been away from Babycenter Boards for a few weeks - we've had a run of illnesses in the house.  Everyone is *mostly* well right now.  Keep your fingers crossed.

I'm struggling with sleep issues with Trevor.  I love to cuddle with him and cherish this time together.  HOWEVER, Trevor is in a stage where he wants to be held while sleeping (he's getting too big!) or attached to my boob all night!  I'm getting no "me" time and zero alone time with DH.  I don't want to let him cry (even tried letting him cry because I was desperate).  Admitedly, we don't have a great sleep routine going.  I have two older boys who make our life a bit chaotic.  I just want it to get better, but can't seem to find it in me to do a sleep method unless it's very simple.

He's been sick and I'm sure he's teething, which is making it all worse.  Help!   sleep

Wow, I can't imagine what to tell you, just want you to know I sympathize.  My DD was like that for the first few months but then suddenly she didn't want to be held to go to sleep any more.  I just watch for sleep signs such as yawning, eye rubbing, fussiness, etc., and then I lay her down and stay with her until she falls asleep.  Sometimes it takes awhile (especially the first few times we did it!), but other times she will fall asleep as soon as her head hits the mattress.  Anyway, good luck, I hope someone can help you!

I deal with the same thing during the day...but miraculously the past 2 days I've laid her in the crib when she's "kinda out but attached to the boob" and snuggled a blanket around her, rubbed her head and she's out. She's sleeping in her crib right now for a mid-morning nap which is unheard of! Now, she cut a tooth last night, so that might be why I got lucky today and yesterday! She's really sleepy and a bit stuffy.
Normally during the day I can't get a decent nap out of her unless she's on the boob or in her stroller. I take her for a walk everyday to get my 7yr old from school and she sleeps all of the way there and back. That'll be her only real nap time unattached to the boob.

Nighttime is a different story, she's so burned out from a busy day I can lay her in the crib at night wide awake, she rolls to her side and passes out. I don't co-sleep though and never did with her so she doesn't miss that snuggle time that you would have if you cosleep. Well, I should say I do a modified version. She was in the bassinet next to my bed until she was 4 mo. When she'd wake for her 4/5am feeding if I left her in bed with me we'd get 2 more hours of sound sleep together. now if she sleeps through the night until 4/5am, I'll bring her in my bed for her am feeding and we sleep together until 6. But if she wakes up at 2am instead she goes back in the crib without any problems.
