cmp03- cloth diapers
« on: November 15, 2006, 01:23:35 AM »

I won't like you any less if you use disposables, Wink  but I noticed your intro about considering cloth and wanted you to know that I do just throw them in the washer- no dunking, soaking, or anything!

When they're dirty I throw them into a waterfroof totebag in the living room or a platic bin in her room and ignore them until wash.  I dump the lot into the washer on hot with a 30 minute presoak.  So far this is working great- the only time I had issues was at the beach (cold water only, ick)  When she starts foods, solids need to be dumped in the toilet, some peple use a sprayer for that, but then wash as usual.  If it looks like I have to I may do the 30 minute soak with cold then do a regular hot wash with no soak?  I rarely do an extra rinse.  I don't need to if I set the water level one step above my amt of laundry.

I don't clean out my cloth diapers before washing, either.  I just throw all of the diapers straight into the pail and wash them 1-2 times a week.  I do one wash on cold and then one wash on hot.  When our older daugher started solids I used a flushable, biodegradable liner in the diaper and would just pull if out if she had a bm and flush it, then throw the diaper in the pail and wash it like usual.  Love those liners!!!

I use cloth with both of the kids now.  It is GREAT for my two year old!  She has one solid BM per day, and I just dump the poop in the toilet when she is done, and there is no residue!  It is awesome!  I love the dry bag!  What is everyone using?  I use Swadlebees diapers with a Bummi cover, and they work great.  I tried just using prefolds, but they didn't work out for us.  I am just curious about everyone else!

I talked to my husband about using cloth diapers.  We had talked about it prior to her bring born and he was on board for it (he is the one that was staying home w/her M-F).  When I brought it up again last night he said he doesn't want to do them.  I think I am just going to order some anyways and then I will use them when I am home w/her and see how it goes.  Don't know what we will end up using but it worth at least giving it a shot.

Where do you guys buy your from?  And where can I get those disposable liners (he might be more likely to try that)?

my dh wont quite get on board with the cloth diapers on his nights with baby.  I have a utility sink in my laundry room and I usually put really soiled diapers to soak for a while in there. The wet ones go straight in the wash.  I have some prefolds and some all in one diapers. Most I have got second hand. When I was pregnant with Winter I got a huge box of cute diaper covers ar a garage sale for really cheap. I had no idea how expensive they were at the time.  It was a great deal.

I use prefolds with a snappi and Mother-ease airflow covers.  I lucked out because our local diaper service closed when Ava was a newborn so I bought 6 dozen diapers from them for $35!  I love the look of AIO's, but they were a bit out of our price range.  When we start solids I use the Kushhies Flushable Diaper Liners (http://www.kidsurplus.com/kusl545.html).  I've tried other brands, but this one seems to be the most "sturdy."
