I'm officially calling her sitting as of today. She doesn't need me to be right next to her when she sits now she loves it to, she even goes from sitting to crawling position and is working on the crawling. its happening so quickly.

That's awesome! Just for kicks I just tried to sit Willa up. She flopped over in half laughing and started chewing on her toes. I'll just be happy she finally rolled

totally jealous- mohamed has no interest in sitting, he gives me this goofy look and falls over... he's only interested in his feet and eating his shirt!

do you guys actively encourage sitting or crawling? just wondering. dd1 was always frustrated with trying new things but Asha is just determined and loves new things so we have been encouraging her to do it. we put a banana pillow behind her when we sat her up and it only took a couple of weeks. They've got to want to do it though, which i'm lucky in that she does.

I just read that hand control thread... seems like so long ago! Elis loves sitting, too. The Bumbo was terrific for us when she first let us know she wanted to be upright but she's starting to do well without it. Sometimes I don't know if she falls forward or does it on purpose but when she ends up on her belly she's not upset like she used to be. She just learned to roll back-to-belly and suddenly doesn't mind being on her tum (on her terms!!) Sometimes she looks like she wants to crawl but all she does is rotate in a cirlce with her head staying in the same spot like a clock hand! We just let her progress at her pace... it's all too fast for me anyway! If she looks like she wants help then we pitch in... I guess that's what you mean.
Mari, LOL, Elis always fell over at first because she could suddenly see her feet and lost balance trying to get them in her mouth! I give her the Austin Powers movie line all the time... her look just says "GET IN MY BELLY!" when ever she sees something she likes.

Thinking about it, I probably don't actively encourage the physical development like I do other things (like sign language). I have set her up a couple times with a pillow behind her and the boppy in front of her for support, but she pretty much hates it. Willa is a pretty high-needs baby so she doesn't have a lot of happy time being set down, but that doesn't totally explain it because my older daughter was really mellow, but also didn't reach her motor milestones very quickly.

Violet can sit for a while with her boppy pillow around her if she tips over usually she just finds her toes and tries to suck on them.
