Hi all, I am new to this board. Thought that I would share a website I created about elimination communication: www.whizkidz.bizThis is informational based on my experiences with EC. I have not updated it in a while, but we started using this technique when my son was 3 months old. He is now two, so I've got lots of experience. Let me know if you are interested in learning more, or have any questions. Lori

I'll toss you a link from my EC site, they're startlingly similar, actually. the link won't do you much good, it's still PR 0 on google...

i started ec with my 4 month old son one week ago. i started him out with no nappies from day one. by day 5 we were doing pretty good i think. only missed 1 on day 5,6, and 7! i have 2 questions thouugh. First thing, when i hold my son, i was doing the regular supported squat position. he pees STRAIGHT up. i tried using a finger to lighty aim him down, but if i touch his penis he stops peeing and cries So i have been peeing him in the tub so that aim isnt a big deal. LOL he has tried grabbing his pee stream a few time since it goes staright up between his legs and sometimes in my hair too. i dont get why this happens and how can i help him aim?? Also, his bowel movements are really unpredicatble. Usualy once a day but sometimes he goes a few days in between... he has not shown any signs ahead of time yet, so i have gotten pooped on twice this week. he poops at different times in the day too so tht hasnt halped. any thoughts?? thanks ladies, im so glad i found this board!! i tried on bbc and got all kinds of comments about what a nut i am.

I don't have any experience with boys so i cant help you there. I wanted to know though how its going having him naked. i haven't had the guts to do it. we miss heaps here, but she still gets the idea. i'd like to go into a higher gear with it but I'm currently a bit stretched with having to look after my almost 2 yr old too.

my boy neve peed straight up like you're describing, but we didn't start EC until he was 7 months, so maybe yours will grow out of it? Grabbing the stream , though, haha, that never gets old. Just wait til he's old enough to stick his fingers in his butt.

i like it better when he is nakie... i just feel like it reminds me to be more watchufl. if however i am busy or something i do put a nappy on him. when my husband is home from work sometimes we put a nappy on., because he got ppeed on last week and wasnt too happy. we are usually only having one miss a day but i am not going by instinct AT ALL yet, just making potty opportunities everyu 15 minutes. he gets it, but sometimes he is mad that we have to stop playing to go potty. im hoping he grows out of it... we are thinking about just getting a little potty with the shield.

Hi everyone, we are from Michigan, USA.
About the stream going up so high, I used to lean Aiden slightly forward while I held him in the squat position. Actually, I still do this, now he stands on a stepstool, and I still hold him and lean him slightly forward. If I don't do that, he just goes all over the place, I kind of aim it where I want it to go.
Also, wanted to let you all know that everyone thought (and some may still think) that I was nuts to even try this when my son was three months old. But now, when our just turned two year old is in swim class, Daddy is so proud that his little boy is the only one in class not wearing a diaper. Bill just pulls up Aiden's underpants, and gets him dressed, while all the other dads (with much older boys), are still changing dipes. He just said: " that just can't be good for those kids". I agree, and I'm glad we do what we do. Wouldn't change a thing.

Hi Lori - Great to see you over here on this board! I enjoyed looking at your site - very cute pic of your son reading on the toilet! when i hold my son, i was doing the regular supported squat position. he pees STRAIGHT up. i tried using a finger to lighty aim him down, but if i touch his penis he stops peeing and cries So i have been peeing him in the tub so that aim isnt a big deal. Lily - some people shield the flow from boys with their hand so that the spray doesn't go quite so much everywhere. You might like to have a pee towel at hand to wipe with before doing anything else :-) I wonder also whether you might find that spreading his knees a little more might give more room for downward movement? Another thing - about frequency of potty-tunities - you might find that you can gradually stretch the time between offering so that it is a little longer and thus give him more chance to signal you. That said, my DD wasn't a great signaller and we went on timing and instinct right through to grad-hood. Also, he might be happier if you have the potty right where you are so that he doesn't feel that he has to leave the play area to use it. Megs - nothing wrong with using the garden etc :-) In my experience it is good for the baby to get used to a variety of different pottying places for ease when travelling and just while out and about. You might find that Asha likes the potty a little more if you let her play with a special potty toy that doesn't come out at any other time.
