well maddox has always been prone to rashes but the lastfew weeks he has been getting this rash on his back that starts right where the nappy ends and moves up his back... it was teribly itchy and all... so we took him to the doctors yesterdya ... excema..

he has a steroid based cream to use sparingly for a week and then a lesser  one to use in futuer maintenance.

anyone have any ideas for relieving itch?  he can only use this special cream once a day and they itch is lasting a lot longer than that.

Just a thought - if the rash starts where the nappy ends, what is different about the washing of his clothes vs nappy (different detergent? fabric softener? more detergent? different drying method???)  Are his nappies cotton or hemp or ? and his clothing polyester blend or ??  What does he lie on or lean on that affects his back but his nappy protects him from it?  Could it be cushions, lounge material, CAR SEAT?

I have heard of people getting relief from excema by removing aggravating influences from their environment or diet.

A girl I went to school with had very bad excema.  I remember her scabby and itchy all the time.  When I was talking to her last year, she mentioned that it had all gone away after she cut out all dairy from her diet for an unrelated reason.  She said it was like a miracle and asked, rhetorically, why none of the doctors she had seen in the past forty years had ever suggested it before.  She also said that none she had seen since were the slightest bit interested in her remarkable healing....

So consider envinronmental factors like laundry detergent, moisturisers, things he touches or leans on...
Consider dietary factors like dairy (often implicated in skin things) or anything which you have a suspicion about.  It might be worth cutting ALL dairy out of his diet (and yours while you are still bfing him) or any other foodstuff you are suspicious about.

There is a good support list for making dietary changes - let me know if you would like the details.
Good luck with treating the itch - but more so in finding the underlying causes of the problem.

thanks guys,

marnie i have been trying to find the source of the problem... i changed washing powder to a sensitive one but i guess that doesnt mean he wont react to it...  we only use qv washes since he started to get this irritation, he mostly wears cotton clothing and he doesnt come into contact with much in the way of plants ect... although it did occur to me maybe when he rolls around in teh grass at the grandparents places the grass seed could be irritating... but this is only every now and then.

as for diet... ihadnt thought of that and i wwould like to do some more reading on it...

megs i think ill try that goats milk soa p also... something different anyway and it might provide some releif, i dnt much like his using these creams but while it is this bad i think it is best to tackle it now and then work on prevention
