has anyone read this?

ive just finished it and am just so amazed at how a parent can treat a child like that. this woman had maybe 10 or more kids (i lost track) but she just picked this one poor child out and focused all her abuse on her... it makes me sad how can people like this think of themselves as parents and good ones at that...
