I answered in arms wherever. But, this isn't really accurate, but there isn't a choice such as "other" to describe our napping situation. Both kids nap in the family room, rather than a bedroom. The reason is because we have a two story house and it's just a pain to deal w/ goinig upstairs when one kid wants to sleep and the other doesn't. This started b/c Jessie was too impatient to wait for me to get Emily asleep upstairs in my bedroom and would whine and fuss b/c she wanted to play w/ her toys, which are split between their room upstairs and the downstairs. At the time, Jessie wasn't comfortable being in a completely different bedroom than me. Now, it probably wouldn't be as big of a deal. But, we're in the habit of a family room nap and I doubt it will change. Here's how naps are:
Jessie falls asleep on the couch...sometimes w/ my arm around her as she leans against me, sometimes she goes to sleep on her own w/o me even being on the couch. I don't do anything to get her to nap...she just naps if she wants to; but, she doesn't nap most days now. Emily usually falls asleep in my arms and then I transfer her to a portable crib mattress that I lay down on the floor (keep it standing up in a corner when it's not in use) after she's already asleep. She usually sleeps in my arms the first 15min or so of her nap, then sleeps another 45-90min on the mattress. Occasionally, she wakes back up again and when I sit down w/ her in my arms, she'll go back to sleep for another 30-60min. A lot of it depends on how tired she is, how loud Jessie is being, and what I need to get done while she's sleeping. Sometimes, if DH is here or Jessie is sleeping too and I feel lazy, I'll just hold her in my arms and browse the web or snooze a bit myself (instead of doing houswork, lol!). It just depends on the day. Also, lately, she's been taking later naps and then ends up falling asleep at the table during her snack. It's very cute. I'm usually able to transfer her to a mattress pretty easily when this happens. I think this is happening b/c she's weaned from nursing during the day, which means she's not as easy to settle to nap like she was before...walking, rocking, patting, etc only work occasionally.
Ok, I'm sure this is more detail than you wanted. I'm in a talky mood. I'll stop now.
