Ok, she's 3yrs 8mos old. Up until yesterday, she would only pee in the potty after bath time. But, yesterday, she finally decided to go to the potty all day. Yeah!!! She's going both pee and poop in the potty. She started yesterday and has only had a couple accidents. She pretty much just decided on her own yesterday morning, after having a leaky diaper. I think it happened b/c she saw her cousin this weekend, who is 10mos younger, going to the potty. He just started going to the potty last week. I think that was the motivation she needed to do this. I'm SO excited!!!

Sounds like a good version of peer pressure I remember my friend's son, when he was about that age, being so proud when he'd go on the potty. Sounds like it's gonna click for her now!

We're now in day FOUR of Jessie going potty all day (during her awake hours). She's had no problem with doing both #1 and #2 in the potty, right from the start on Monday. She's had no poo accidents at all. Yesterday she only had one pee accident. The previous 2 days, she had 2 or 3 pees accidents each day. So, we're seeing improvement there. She usually has an accident when she gets busy playing (or eating) and doesn't want to get up to pee. I think she's learning it's a bigger hassle to have an accident where she has to change clothes, than it is to just get up and go. As far as night time, she's still wearing a pull-up. She doesn't seem to mind the transition from underwear during the day to pull-up at bedtime. Previous times we tried to potty-train, we got stopped when we tried to switch to pull-ups at night and back to underwear the next day; or, if we tried letting her wear underwear at night, she got very stressed when she peed in her sleep and would plead to wear a diaper and wouldn't give it up in the morning. But, now, she seems to understand better that she needs the extra protection at night, but can get up to pee and poop during the day. I've told her that when she wakes up w/ a dry diaper for a week, then we can switch to wearing underwear at night too. She still hasn't had a dry diaper yet when waking up from bed time. She's doesn't seem able to hold it all night, nor does she seem able to wake herself up yet. Unfortunately, I know that this may take a long time. Both my mom and myself were bedwetters when we were kids. I think my mom said I was like 5yrs old before I stopped wetting the bed at night. I'm not sure how old my mom was, but I remember her saying her father made her sleep in the bathtub at night as punishment for bedwetting as a kid . I'm so glad that we have a more enlightened point of view nowadays...and the pull-ups or goodnites to allow the kids to be comfortable as their bladders catch up to the rest of their bodies. Anyway, I don't expect the nighttime wetting to go away any time soon....but I'm ok w/ that for right now.

Update...Day 6 (saturday). Today, we went out for the first time to run errands (purposely stayed home this week so Jessie would get comfy going potty before we ventured out and was also waiting for our portable potty seat to arrive). Jessie fussed when I asked her to go pee before we left the house. She didn't see the point since she didn't have to pee right then. I pretty much made her sit on the potty, but she wasn't happy and she didn't pee. I'm not sure if we should have the rule that everyone MUST go to the potty before we leave the house, or not. I know that was a rule my mom had and changing diapers & going pee is still one of the last things I do before leaving the house for any reason. What do you think? We went to the first place and Jessie didn't have to pee. We then went to another place and after we arrived, Jessie felt like she had to go. So, we found the restroom and she went w/ our new foldable potty seat on the toilet. It went fine, other than taking me a few second to get it on the potty while she did the pee dance. Also, she forgot to lean forward and the pee sprayed out of the potty (she gets a lot of volume out w/ high force when she pees...sorry if TMI). So, it got on her panties and skirt, even though they were pulled down quite a bit and she was sitting at the very back of the toilet. Luckily, I had brought 2 complete sets of clothes to change into if we had accidents. So, it was no biggy and didn't seem to stress her out b/c I played it off as no big dea (she has a tendency to find things like this very stressful). It would have been much harder for her if we had to leave shopping and ride home in wet clothes. I'm so glad I brought extras. At the end of the shopping trip, as we were putting groceries in and she mentioned she had to pee. I said, let's go and she said she wanted to wait. I expected an accident in the car, but let it go, since it was only a 3min ride back to the house. Surprisingly, she held it until we got home and could go pee on the potty at home. I'm so proud of her for making it thru our first venture out w/o any potty misses. In addition to today being our first day out, we've been working on getting her going thru the steps of the potty completely by herself. Of course, I still stand at the door to remind her of things she occasionally forgets, like pulling down her underwear, and to keep her company...she doesn't want to go completely by herself yet...but we're working up to that). She's now able to do the entire sequence, including getting pants down & up, turning on/off water facet for hand washing, and drying hands w/o any adult intervention...unless she's pooped, in which case we just have to wipe her. This is SO exciting!! In another note, Emily has started copying Jessie's behavior. After I take her diaper off for a change, she'll say "go potty" and get up and go to the bathroom door. If I let her in, she goes over the big potty and wants help on. I sit her on there and she just sings and plays. She'll say "mommy, I big girl" b/c she wants to be a big girl like Jessie. It's so cute. We still haven't had any pees or bms in the potty yet. But, I do think it's cool that she associates diaper time w/ the potty and that she's willing to sit on the big potty. That's a big step in the right direction (that I wasn't even considering yet), lol! Ok, I'll stop babbling now.
