We're going to a remote island for three weeks soon. I'm currently in a major dillema about where to put Vivian for sleep! Please bear through the boringneess of this thread and help me. It's ridiculous how much of this has occupied my brain!
Portacrib - would provide adequate support for three weeks. Would contain her. But bulky and heavy. And still may not be long enough for her.
Air mattress - would be easier to move from room to room. There will be very hot nights when we need to sleep on the front porch and I would be able to move the air mattress easier than a portacrib. Con? - would not contain her and she might roam around the cabin at night
Pack n Play - not enough support for 3 weeks. Maybe an overnight or two, but not 3 weeks.
Laying one of the twin mattresses on the floor - simple solution, but again, she might roll off and/or roam around the cabin.
Sleeping with her with a rail on the bed. Con? It's going to be HOT having a sticky baby in the bed with me. And she's such a little squirmer. I want this vacation to be restful, not stressful. . .
Why is there not such a thing as a portable toddler crib?
What would you do?

Oh, that's a tough one.
Can you put the twin mattess on the floor with one side against a wall and a rail on the other? Then maybe prop a bunch of pillows at the other end? That way you could lay down with her to help get her to sleep if you needed to but she would be mostly contained.
We have a similar dilemma only its going to be for a week. I think that we are probably going to do what I said above. I really hate to take the pack n'play or port-a-crib anywhere at this point. Luckily we'll have air conditioning so if she ends up in bed with us it won't be a big deal.

hmm...is this a one room cabin, or is there a separate bedroom? If there's a separate bedroom area, you could put up a gate in the doorway to keep her from roaming. Then, she could sleep on a mattress on the floor. There's even some gates that roll-up so they're more compact for traveling.
I found these travel beds that might "contain" her more than a standard mattress: --http://www.onestepahead.com/product/86218/91763/117.html --http://www.onestepahead.com/product/86218/91757/117.html
Here's an example of one of the gates I was talking about: --http://www.onestepahead.com/product/86218/309763/117.html
We just got back from traveling. Luckily, we were in rooms w/ ac in them. We just had a king bed w/ a bed rail on one side to keep Emily from rolling out of bed. She slept at the end of the one side, then me, then Jessie, and then DH on the other side (he's enough to keep the kids contained at night). OTOH, when she napped, I laid her down on a portacrib mattress, so that I could play w/ Jessie w/o needing to be in the bed w/ her. We kid-proofed the room as soon as we got there so that it was ok that she could get up even if I wasn't in the immediate area of her napping mattress. It wasn't a big deal at all.

Thanks guys! Hope, that site is fabulous. I had seen an infant portable bed but not one for bigger kids. I think my search is over!

Cool...glad it helped! I couldn't live w/o OneStepAhead...I usually order something from them every few months b/c there's always something I need that I've only found at their site.
Have fun on your trip!!
