Cloth and Utilities...

Do you think using cloth diapers has affected your utility bills? Ours have been sky high this winter and I am wondering how much of it is washing diapers. They are drying out on the porch right now, so hopefully that helps. Just wondering.......

I doubt that our use of cloth nappies affected our utility bills very much.  I always washed the nappies with whatever else needed to be washed and always hung to dry.  (We don't have a drier.)  I also kept - and keep - the final rinse water for the first wash next time.

Of course, doing EC and getting more wees and poos in the potty also helped to reduce the amount of nappies and thus washing.  Wink

An intermediate step for us was using training pants as they are smaller so take less washing and are quicker to dry.

i guess i really should look at how much electricity we use.  we ran the air con a bit this summer and thats bound to put it up.  I'm concrned about getting my nappies dry this winter and c has been on strike so i've been washing everyday.  We generally use the line unless its raining and then we use the laundromat dryers.

irt is hard to say since even just having baby messes that everyone has, like spitup and spills, makes washing more frequent.   Huh
