For those who've gone through toilet training or EC how long did it take from them showing a true interest - as in them going to the potty and sitting on it themselves (often not getting there in time though) to them being effectively 'trained'? I mean trained not in a forced way but just that they use the toilet and not wet nappies anymore.
Charlie was on the longest strike( ithink it was 3-4 months of wishy washy EC), clearly due to many obstacles like hospital visits and moving house that upset her. as of the last two days she seems to have a renewed enthusiasm for the potty. She has started to figure out how to sit on it. I'm just really excited for her, just waiting for her to start telling us again that she needs to go (rather than me asking).
How are all the ECers going? I've felt for the last 3 months like we were back to the old way of doing things, something both c and i weren't keen on(she hates having her nappy changed).

We've been doing much better since I stopped expecting him to tell me every time he needs to go. As much as he communicates other things more lately, "potty" just isn't among them. Soon, though, I think. Here's a true story to illustrate why I think so: Kody was naked in the livingroom while I was in the kitchen for a moment. He made an urgent sound and I looked over to see him with his hand over his crotch and knees bent in the classic "I gotta go NOW, mom!" pose so I ran over and took him outside to pee. He almost always goes outside, less distraction and less chance of mess. He went, of course. Then we came back in and I went back to the kitchen. He came around the couch and made the same pose again. I thought he couldn't possibly have to go again, but have learned a long time ago that "you couldn't possibly" is my worst enemy when it comes to missing pees. So I took him outside again. The little smarty-pants ran away from me the second he could reach the ground. No pee. He knows how to get what he wants, lol. Anyway, we've been doing really well, as long as I take him outside for pee before we go anywhere. He goes without a net, so to speak, no vinyl cover or plastic training pants, everywhere. Resturants, gymboree, church, grocery shopping. The only place I put a cover on him is other people's houses where we're going to be visiting for a while and other people will be there. If someone else is watching him and I'm socializing, I can't be sure we won't have a mess. That said, he doesn't always go on the potty, especially the bblp, even if he has to. He's an outdoorsy kind of guy, I guess. Also, his bblp is in the living room, where he also has a plastic shelf organizer kind of thing full of books. I've found him having pulled all the books out of his book box squatting in it, peeing through his undies, with the potty sitting useless nearby. What's up with that?

We have 2 pottys but one has been in the car for 3 months(clean of course). i brought it in this morning, showed c and she followed me and sat down on it straight away. Problem is i can't have the potty visible to remind her, like in the kitchen as i'm sure some people would have a problem with that here. so i'm back to asking her. she went on it again later but then decided that she would empty it, thats ok if she empties it in the toilet but she emptied it in the laundry basket. oh well. she is excellent at out in public EC, tells me when she needs to and i instinctively know too. she will usually just wear undies/shorts at the park. This sounds like c too. she has peed in her toy box a couple of times. unfortunately we cant go nappiless just yet.
