43. easier to clean the kitchen - no layer of animal fat on everything from frying.
44. less likely to have a fire if your kitchen - olive oil is not so volatile.
45. not so many flies (and bears) in your kitchen or around your table who love the smell of meat.
46. greater connection to the food you are eating (who wants to connect to the killing of an animal?!).
almost half way there!

Megs, your dh wrote that! Actually, the bears I've encountered are more attracted to candy bars and fruit. Maybe in Alaska or Wyoming where there're grizzlies...
49. You can have your veg friends over for dinner and not panic about knowing what to serve them

If I were a meat eater out in the wilderness, I would worry about wolves. In California in the mountains east of LAish we had these bees that would steal meat off people's plates. No one knew what they did with it, they just carried it away. Weird.
50. score a better environmental footprint

OK Megs, Why are you a veg? I am loving reading this thread. I am not a vegetarian, but I believe in it. I just can't do it. I tried for a few months in college and it just about drove me crazy.
Addrienne, did you used to live in CA? Where? I grew up there.

55. food is cheaper
56. don't need such a big freezer
57. no risk of dry chicken or turkey for an important meal
58. we eat a wider variety of food (i know we have already had on along these lines, but the average Australian eats only 20 species on a regular basis. most vegetarians eat at least 20 different species in one meal and have a wide variety of meals. a meat-eating friend stayed with us for a few days and said that he had never had so much variety (and new) foods - and we didn't do any out of the ordinary (we even had pizza one night from memory)).
if you're holding back on some good ones, now's the time to add them cause we are running out of room in the 101!

Firstly i became veg as it was easier when i moved in with Tristan. then the reasons started to flow. I don't think that an animal should die in order for me to eat, then it was the buddhist reincarntion side of things. animal rights and ethical reasons are high on my list of why to be veg. then it was for health reasons. given all the information on why meat is not necessary and can do us more harm than good, it gave me no other choice.
I found it quite difficult to be veg to begin with but i just reminded myself of my key belief that animals shouldn't die for me to eat. it became easier as time went on. i still struggle a little when i see meat that i used to love to eat, but i just don't give in anymore.
I wonder what Charlie will think when she realises that other people eat animals.
