AP Mama to 3 Kids

This is an off-shoot of my response to Adrienne's question about blood-type diet.
I do think that there is some legidimacy to the idea that the same caloric intake of some foods can cause you to feel "less full" than other foods with that same caloric intake. Specifically, refined sugar of any kind, but expecially high fructose corn syrup, causes you to feel hungry...even if you have just eaten. This is because the high sugar content increases your blood sugar level, which causes your body to have produce more insulin than normal to process it, but this high level of insulin then drops your blood sugar low, so you feel hungry/shaky/get cravings...so then you eat more...usually something w/ lots of sugar b/c that's what your body needs to bring the sugar back up...but then you start the whole process over again. Unfortunately, just about every processed food contains some type of processed sugar; many have high fructose corn syrup. Things like prepared foods (frozen, canned, etc), sauces (ketchup, bbq sauce, etc), bread, candy, jelly, etc. Anything that's got the following in the label is not good: sucrose, glucose, fructose, lactose, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, etc means a "processed sugar". Basically, I've come to the conclusion that just about ANYTHING you buy in the store that's not a whole food (ie fresh fruit, veggies or meat) has this in it.
I used to think that fructose or lactose was better b/c they are "natural" sugar, derived from fruit or milk, respectively...but in actuality, I've recently read that many things that say fructose, really means corn syrup. Basically, the corn gets processed and genetically altered a bunch of times, and a new fructose is created. Apparently high fructose corn syrup is one of the MOST genetically altered foods around. Scary!!
So, now my big thing is to try to eliminate any food that has corn syrup or any other processed sugar in it. Uggh!! It's definitely a tough task.
