well we havejust returned to cloth since we got back from america and i must admit ive got the fever. we have bunch of terry flats which are good maddox isnt a heavy wetter really so they work well enough. i have about 20 of them.
i made my own liners from micro fleece which has worked out so much cheeper and they really work brilliantly.
i bought my first bubba j hemp fitted last week and it is great..
i agree about the buying of used nappies but id be hoping liners have been used and of course give them minimum three washes before use.
im bidding on some fitted on ebay hope i win... they are new

i'm honestly not concerned by second hand nappies.
My nappy fever has died down too.

for nights we now use happy hempys (a US brand) but if i'd known about them before hand i would have bought some pookey pockets. The happy hempys are a pocket nappy which suits our night needs as they hold a heap of absorbent layers(charlie is a super night wetter. we stuff her pocket with one bamboo flat and 3 hemp boosters). They have an outer and inner hemp fleece. Not keen on pockets for daytimes though(takes too long). I've tried baby beehinds and they work for the variety of babies but not for us. I have one here if you'd like to have a look.
For day we mostly use flats(bamboo are my fave but are massively expensive, so i only have 7 of these.). Don't buy from target or Kmart(i learnt the hard way, they just don't last.)
I have a few fitted nappies. I just got a fantastic rainbow nappy with a hemp inner from one of the girls on nappycino. I also have an Ericas hemp sherpa nappy. These have a great reputation. I too am getting an AIO Bubblebubs which should be here in a few weeks.
If I had money i'd buy from Ericasnappies, I'd try from the following: Cherubs kiss, Pookey Pockets, Tinkletots, there are others.
For covers we use wool soakers(knitted or bumjumpers) for night and naps. they are natural and work fantastically. For days we don't use covers as we EC but would use PUL inner fabric outer wraps if we need to. which i need..
If I had money i'd get recycled woolies from Fully wooly or get knitted ones from any of the girls on nappycino. they have fantastic knitters over there.
I'm also in the process of making my own woolies from an old jumper for charlie. well thats all for now. oh and you and maddox should come visit soon.

thanks
im easing into this so id love to see the baby beehinds prefold... and also a pocket nappy cause im having trouble getting my mind wrapped around how one would look and work haha
im interested to see how you are making the cover out of a jumper also...
i do have some flats from kmart and i know what you mean ... it as mainly a starting block as we needed to move over to cloth as maddox was having bad reactions to sposies and wipes (surprise surprise)... ive started to add week by week to my decent nappy collection and will prob by things slowly.
we definately have to come see you ... let me know when is good for you.
ps: just saw the pic of charlie in her raincow... its gorgeous isnt it... ill post some pics of my boy in his khaki one asap...
she is a real gem megs... love the b;lue eyes maddox has deep blue eyes also.

To be honest, I preferred the thinner terry flats - they would fit more easily into the covers I used. They also dried faster - and since I changed her every time my DD wet, there was no need for more absorbency. Of course, I haven't got a drier, so the time taken for line drying was an important factor.
In our case, we moved to training pants once my DD could stand so that it was quick and easy for pottying and changing her.

Marnie, i know what you mean about no drier, 2 wet days and now i have to go to the laundromat.
Charlie is on an EC strike since her 5c accident, so i'm catching maybe 2 wees a day if that.
Sarah, the target ones i bought deteriorated to nothing after just 6 months of EC use, thats shocking. I'd suggest that on the flats front, go for canningvales. you can get them new and used on ebay or i hear you can still get them from Myer. Oh and seriously anytime except tmoz is great for you guys to visit, only wish i had my license.
by the baby beehinds prefold do you mean the fitted hemp nappy with the snap in boosters, thats what i have.

hey
no i thought you meant you had a pre fold... but id love to see the fitted aswell...
the kmart ones are definately not reat quality and since i use the dryer regularly i guess that will shorten the lifespan for sure... but they were cheap on sale 15% off so not to worried.
i checked out erica's nappies which looked great... ill definately have to try some.
we didnt Ec with maddox the first 12 mths of his life were non stop with us we were always flying or driving ect haha it just didnt seem possible... next bub i will prob give it a go (whenever that is....)
great... illgive you an email over the weekend and maybe one day next week we could come visit? i dont mind driving at all...

by the baby beehinds prefold do you mean the fitted hemp nappy with the snap in boosters, thats what i have.
moogie, they are two different things. a prefold is a square of fabric, like a little quilt. they are made out of absorbent fabrics like sherpa, hemp, bamboo, organic cotton (sometimes called Chinese prefolds) it's divided into three panels, the middle one has the most layers. there is no elastic and no built in fastener, if you wish to fasten it, you use pins or a Snappi (if you have a snug enough cover, you don't need to fasten it). you wrap the baby in the prefold, and put on a cover prefolds come in a few sizes like premmie, small, medium, large many people fold up the prefold and use as a pocket nappy stuffer when baby is older - so it serves two purposes, a nappy when baby is newborn, and as absorbency stuffer when they are older a fitted nappy is shaped, it has elastic around the legs and fastens with snaps, velcro (often called aplix) fitted nappies come in sizes (according to babies weight) e.g Newborn, small, medium, large, xlarge most fitted nappies need a cover too (fleece, PUL, wool) Baby beehinds makes both of these style of nappies. Sometimes the nappywebsites have the prefolds listed under a section titled "Flats" cos they are a flat bit of fabric, as opposed to pockets, fitteds and all in ones, which are curved and shaped. The prefold is the thing most similar to the old terry towelling nappies of my mum's generation, the difference is modern fabrics that are more absorbent and the "quilt" idea of having layers. The new fabrics used are also apparently trimmer than the old terry towelling. I am about to have a baby and have been researching cloth nappies for months, so unfortunately, all my knowledge is theoretical. The best things i have learnt is when i am in a room with mums who actually use cloth nappies. hope some of this clarifies things for you!

Good on you for doing some research.
TBH i like my flats best, but the fitteds are good for showing off, they can be so cute but are too pricey for my budget.
There are a fair few nappy/diaper users on this forum, so if you have any questions once bub arrives, just ask. When is bub due?
