I'm a member of a cloth nappy forum here in Oz and its so addictive. there are so many choices in terms of nappy choices in the modern world, so what does everyone do for cloth nappies.
do you do the traditional terry squares or are you into modern cloth. We're using fitteds for nights now and i just love my bamboo flats for days, don't see a need, especially with EC to go fitteds in the day time.
How many nappies does every one have? and what types?

Remenber when I was asking you guys all the questions about cloth diapers? Well I have since become majorly addicted. I belong to some forums too, and I can't belive how into it I have become! I use fitteds with wool, and Scott uses mostly pockets. He is afraid of anything with more than one step. I think I have about 40 diapers, which gets me through two days of using them and the the extra day and a half of getting them washed. I always have a load of diapers in the wash it seems like. I think I have a problem

I use Chinese prefolds and love them! I've used prefolds with all of my kids. I use then with pins and diaper covers of various kinds. With my 6 older kids I used diaper service. With Aidan I bought and wash my own and adore the whole process. I have three dozen diapers...he's in large now. At night I fold a small prefold into thirds and lay it down the middle of a large prefold to double diaper him for night...works great! I wash twice a week. We had a pin emergency the other day and I tried to use a Snappi that Shannon sent me. Boy, my diapering was none too elegant looking and those alligator-like teeth on the Snappi were almost my undoing. I am Snappi impaired and am back to pins now... I cloth diapers! Annie

Annie, I wasn't a huge fan of the Snappis either, but I figured it was just me. lol. By the time I started with cloth Delaney was so wiggly that I was afraid to get near her with a pin. I am going to start with pinned prefolds on the next one.

Another Snappi failure here! I scratched myself and Kody. I've never stuck him with a pin. The Snappi fastened diapers tended to fall off, too.

Ok, maybe I'm stupid...and just don't know since I don't cloth diaper...but why isn't there VELCRO on cloth diapers? Pins and snappis both sound inconvenient to me.

Some do have Velcro, I think. Some, the fitted ones like Kissaluvs, have snaps. We use Snappis and pins on the plain-jane flats or prefolds that are simple and versatile because they can be folded a variety of ways to fit a variety of baby bottom shapes and are way cheaper than the kind that come with snaps or Velcro. Clear as mud, I know, I'm on the run.

I sort of wish I could CD, they look cute. But, I hate doing laundry and I'm sure would run out of diapers all the time. That, and that fact that DH thinks that using diapers another child has used (ie buying off of ebay to save money or using a diaper service) is gross. It's just his thing. He won't let the kids play with any toys bought at a yard sale or used kid's store. It's just his "issue", lol!
I think the AIOs seem easy to use...why don't more people use those...is it just the expense or do they not perform as well?
Congrats to those of you who can/do CD. I think it's awesome!

For us it was the expense. Imagine sitting down to order diapers when you're 7 months pg and spending money on all the "baby iminant" expenses and seeing prefolds for $12 a dozen versus AIOs for $10-$15 each. Besides if CD doesn't work out, you can always use prefolds to clean your windows.

Hope...
AOI's are quite expensive...$8 and up for one from what I've seen. I can get three dozen prefolds...premiums..for about $15-18/dozen. They work great, aren't a hassle at all and are far more economical. BTW, those are new prefolds...not used.
Oh, I also had diaper wraps with my older kids that were velcro. You just popped the prefold into the diaper wrap/cover and closed them w/ the velcro.
Love,
Annie

interesting....thanks for all the info. The wraps sound cool!
(ok, if you're wondering why I'm trying all this when I'm clearly not switching out of 'sposies is b/c my sister is due in July and is environ-conscious. right now she's looking at 7th gen. sposies, but I might try to convince her to try cloth...but want to have a clearer idea of what I would suggest).

I was using a type of enviro disposables for night until i discovered that after 7 months in the Australian sun in a plack compost bin, they hadn't degraded at all. Hope, that might be something your sister might want to know.
I absolutely love my new bamboo nappies which are about double/triple the price of ordinary flats but i think it is so worth it. they are a sublime soft and ultra absorbant. I've been trying some fitteds for night as i hate to see c in a doubled flat nappy with boosting. she can barely walk in it, poor thing.
We use velcro covers that are pretty cheap to keep clothing dry or a wool cover which i love but a little pricey, absolutely fantastic for night. the beauty of wool is that you can use the same cover for a couple of weeks before it needs washing and its amazing how it stays dry.

Annie, I've tried using the wrap without pins but the diaper gets all bunched and wierd. Not that I tried very often, I guess because I used pins straight from the begining it was easier for me to pin, then wrap over that.
