Raw Day?
« on: February 16, 2006, 12:18:27 PM » |

I've been feeling super sluuuuuuugish and depressed for about a week now and have been considering a one day fast to sort of clean house. I hesitate because in addition to my concerns about milk supply, I'm also worried about having enough energy during the fast day. I've never properly fasted before. I've been days without eating, but that was something else and I had terrible concentration and zero energy. So, as I'm browsing around online I'm thinking of trying a day of only water, raw fruits and veggies, and maybe some juice. Do any of you have experience with this?

sounds like an excellent idea to me. i might give it a go. sounds like you're just cleansing not really fasting so you get everything you need anyway.

oh and i just asked the guru and she says that fresh juiced organic is probably the best way to go to detox and get the nutrients. she says no longer than a 3 day fast especially since you are breasfeeding.

So have you done it? And how did it go?
I am tempted to try it myself.

Well, I did it. I went about 23 hours on raw fruits and veggies and a little OJ. It was something like 11:00 am until 10:00 am the following day. Let me tell you that it was harder than I thought. I consumed quite a few calories, but I was wicked hungry and in the morning my head felt like a watermelon getting hit with a hammer. No coffee, see. However, once I started to break out, first with some peanut butter on my carrots, then the blessed cup o joe, followed by two light lunches I felt much better. The sluggishness and blah feeling had begun to lift a few days ago, but I wanted to do this anyway, to see if I could feel better still. What I've noticed is that I'm more able to let things slide, and suprisingly therefore get more done and feel better about my productivity. Maybe I was distracted by my sceaming headache, but whatever the cause, I liked the effect. I _do_ feel better. It was hard, but I'm glad I went through with it, and maybe next time I won't have such a hard time with the hungry part. Or maybe it'll always be hard, but in the end I think it's worth it.

Sounds to me like you really did detox by the way you described the watermelon headache. hehe. you're vegan so i'm wondering where the toxins are coming from. is there much air pollution near where you live?

Well, it's NJ, after all! I suppose there's a fair amount of pollution in the air. It wasn't like any headache I've had before, so maybe that's what it was.
