For Those Who Co-Sleep At Night, But Not At Nap Time....
« on: February 09, 2006, 08:52:14 AM »

Where does your baby nap and how do you get them to stay down?

I've tried the crib and a blanket on the floor. Either way, I have a hard time getting her to sleep. Once I do, she might sleep 10min before she wakes up.  Oh, I can't leave her to sleep in our bed b/c it's too high and she has to have an adult  in the bed with her to make sure she doesn't fall off (has to be high b/c of DH's bad back...he can't bend down to get in a low bed).  Also, I don't need to nap with her, I need more time to get cleaning done. I'd rather just hold her (what I'm doing now), so I can at least be online if the choice is me stay in bed with her or me hold her while sitting on the couch.

Any suggestions?

Does she ever use the crib? Because if she doesn't, maybe you could just take it apart and put the mattress on the floor, and get her to fall asleep with you, and then you can get up. If Del is laying down for a nap and I hear her waking up, if I run in and nurse her back to sleep then she usually stays down. Otherwise I figure it wasn't meant to be.  She does nap in our bed, but it is on the floor.

have you thought about getting a rail for the side of your bed... that way she could sleep on there.... theyare very sturdy.

i dont know otherwise maddox has his cot sidecarred nd ive never had a problem getting him down for a nap luckily.

mum2maddox...unfortunately, she tries to climb the rails and if she gets up and over, then the fall is even higher.

Shannon, I think I might try the mattress on the floor...maybe that would be more comfortable for her. Thanks for the idea.

Any other ideas are still welcome at this point.  Smiley

our bed is on the floor too and her cot mattress sidecars for nights.  Every morning we put the cot mattress back in the cot and for naps i bottlefeed her(hopefully, otherwise she is rocked) and when she is well and truly asleep i move her to the cot.

We used to just have her nap on me.  it was a gradual process and she didn't sleep for long at first in the cot but now she knows it is normal to be in there.

i second the mattress on the floor too.

I used to rock my DD to sleep for a nap in the sling - though she often went off while nursing.  Generally I laid her down on a mattress on the floor near where I was going to be - with the sling fabric pulled away from her face, but still wrapped around her body.  If I noticed her stirring, I could often shhusshhh her back to sleep - or if it got desperate I would pick her up still in the sling and do a few laps of the garden to settle her back to sleep again (hopefully!).
