Getting really impatient and excited. I've got 1 bamboo and one organic flat coming and some wool soakers and a baby beehind, oh I'm getting so carried away but i have no money. this stuff is addictive and i so don't want to be a consumer, but have decided its time to stop using bio sposies at night.
what nappies does everyone use? prefolds, AIO, fitteds, soakers? i've only ever used flats so this is all new to me.

We used mostly prefolds and a few kissaluvs with covers. To be honest, the strategy I settled on for nighttime with Kody might work for you in your climate, even with a newborn. He sleeps in a long sleeve shirt, socks and no bottoms, and on top of the waterproof pad I layer a whole bunch of prefolds (you could use flats, I guess, I don't even know wht a flat is) then put a fleece blanket on top. As long as there's enough absorbant stuff underneath, the fleece feels dry. The only problem I have is that sometimes he pees on me and I have to take of my night shirt. I hope that doesn't gross anyone out.

Adrienne, if baby pee grosses us out, we're all screwed. lol. Delaney loves to be naked, and there is a lot of pee involved with that, as you know. I just wanted to tell you that I just bought Del a little potty and she loves to sit on it naked and read. She will stand up every now and then and point at the bowl part with both hands and I say "yes, that is where the peepee and poop goes" and she gets a big smile, and then she will get up and run a few feet away and pee on the floor. I think she doesn't want to get her new seat yucky!
Megs, I have really gotten into Cloth diapers since I started. I have spent wayyyyyyy to much money on them. lol. They are so damn cute! I love to do wool and fitted diapers, and I have a bunch of pockets and All in ones for Scott and the babysitter. I just started crocheting longies, and I have a cute pattern for a skort that I am going to do for the summer. Will it be winter when the baby is born? Maybe I will whip you up a pair, if you don't mind practice ones! I need to stop buying, and start selling my extras! This weekend I will get on the FSOT board.

Ah, there's nothing quite as exciting as new diapers arriving in he mail!
I'm a prefold gal...I love them. They are what I used for my 6 older kids though I had diaper service then so I was really just renting the diapers...LOL.
I am hoping the size Aidan is in now (large) will last him quite a while as his infant sized diapers did. I have premium chinese prefolds and they work wonderfully. At night I just place an infant prefold, folded into thrids, down the center of a large prefold and we never have any leak problems.
I love washing them and the whole bit... Yeah, I'm a freak...LOL
Enjoy your new diapers!
Love,
Annie

Well nothing arrived yesterday. I'll blame Australia Day.
Shannon, I would love a pair of Longies. the baby is due in June, so yeah Winter here.
btw. flats are just a 6ocm x 60cm square of terry(cotton usually) its what people used to use before things got fancy.

Hey gals, I just got some "fluffy mail" on Friday! Just 3 dozen "premium" (blue stitching) chinese prefolds. They looked so huge, but turns out her infant (green stitching) ones were just WAY too small!
Im getting wool very soon too. I thought just for night, but I still get some leaks around the crotch sometimes, so Im thinking for day too maybe.
Adrienne, i LOVE your nighttime idea! That would be cool for summertime maybe.

the silly postman left a pickup note even though we were home. i hate that.
So yesterday i got the wool soakers and the organic cotton and a bamboo nappy. They were so soft and i'm pretty impressed so far. c hasn't woken up yet, no wetness on the soaker, i felt the nappies inside(i doubled them together) and they are a little bit damp, but i expected them to be super wet. I'm just so impressed.
Shannon, when you've made some longies or soakers you've got to send me picks. if you want to sell some i'd be interested for c and the new one.

megs have you thought about knitting your own longies or soakers?
im a terrible knitter but so eagre to learn hehe... i have scoured the net and the patterns i have found look quite easy (of course you can get fancier if you can knit).
i really want to be a bit creative and make things but im not much good at anything bar embroidery hhe and that wont do maddox much good in the cold.

Sars, I'd be intereseted in your embroidery work when you get back. i was wanting some done for the nappies i'm going to make.
i'm considering making soakers out of old jumpers as that seems a little more simple.

Hi Megs I've done soakers knitted and out of old jumpers. Some people love the old jumper ones. I have found a much better fit with knitted ones, and actually quite easy too. Almost as easy as knitting a scarf. I'm going to be adding some info to my site about this in the next week or two, but also happy to help via email or whatever if you decide to try it and need some help! The old jumper ones definitely do suit some people though, so you may find they work well for you. Actually, I've also got a bought "bum jumper" (ie made from an old jumper), and I've knitted a soaker but in the shape that you cut for making one from an old jumper, and neither are as good as the regular soakers that I have knitted/bought. Re embroidery on nappies - sounds lovely. Just keep in mind that if you put it on the waterproof layer/cover you may get leaks as cotton would cause wicking, and if you put it on the absorbent part (eg a flat or fitted nappy) you may just end up covering it with a cover anyway! You could put wool embroidery on a wool cover, or polyester thread embroidery on the outer layer of a fleece cover that would be for day use (not a natural fabric, which I know that you prefer), or any embroidery on a fitted or flat and use it without a cover and without clothes over the top but know that you will have to change bub after one wee. Or you could put embroidered fabric as an outer layer with a waterproof layer such as PUL hidden inside, and then your absorbent fabric then your liner. But this would only be okay for day use. All clear as mud? Fiona

Thanks Fiona for the tips. embroidery on the outer of a flat would work well for us because we EC. not keen on leaving bub even in a just wet nappy. I'll have to think about the knitting thing. i've never done knitting before and i don't know if i have the patience. lol.
