Thought I'd start a weekly thread or continuous thread depending on how itworks.
Charlie has just started to empty out her potty and clean up afetr herself. its pretty excellent. she hasn't quite got the coordination to hold the wee in the container and then tip it into the toilet so i've been helping her. and instead of me assuming she needs to go, i just ask her if she does. the result has been good. only 3 wet nappies yesterday, which means we're off our strike. YAY!!!

Uhg, we're striking today. EVERY single time he peed it was right after he jumped off the potty and ran away bare assed to pee onthe floor before I could catch him. Luckily I caught his poo, but still!

WOOHOO! Sounds like time to use undies or training pants rather than nappies then :-) I always found it alarming when my DD wanted to empty the potty. We seemed to get spillage on the floor quite often - but then I realised that if she hadn't gone in the potty it would more than likely have ended up on the floor anyway - so we were ahead at least a little LOL

Oh! Oh! Such news I have!! It makes me sound like an utter heel, but you won't believe what my darling did yesterday: I was in the kitchen and he was in the living room (it's the same room, really, we call the area with the carpet the "living room") playing with his toys. All of a sudden he ran over to me to tell me he's wet, so i changed his undies and sent him on his merry way. maybe an hour later while I was cleaning up his toys I noticed there was in the !! He must've sat on it and peed his pants. Too bad I wasn't near enough to see it happen.

that is very cool. charlie will rarely take herself into the bathroom but then she waits for me to get there. she is however obsessed with emptying the potty, then closinfg the lid and then flushing. we have a dual flush and she is quicly learning that the left button is for wees and the right is for poos. sometimes she'll pick up the empty potty and do the routine.

That sure is exciting :-) Does he try to take his pants down but not quite manage? If so, it might be time for a bit more nakeybutt :-)
Also, I always needed to offer the potty after a miss - otherwise there would be another miss much sooner than her usual interval between needing to go.
Regards Marnie

Actually, he's nakey butt too much, I think. I've been trying to keep undies ON him more because he's been finding his own "potties" around the house, like in the closet and behind the couch and I'm trying to give him some awareness of pants on, tell mama, pants off, time to pee. He's bare bottomed so much (and walks around with a feather duster alot) that my dad calls him the "upstairs maid."

ROFL!
You're right - maybe wearing undies more will make more of an impact on him - a little more obvious for him when he goes rather than a puddle on the floor that he can just move away from! :-)

No misses and he is only 13 months old? Woohoo for both of you.
FWIW, our first miss-free day was when DD was 23 months old and began when we stepped onto an aeroplane for a 36 hour flight (inc transfers, time on plane, bus and ferry!) That was also the day that I consider her to be an EC grad from - as we had only 1 miss in the next 6 weeks :-) And virtually none after that.

charlie had her first miss free when she was about 9 months old, just a couple of months after we started. soon after that the strikes started.
Q. What age is the best age to start? should i start from birth this time or more like 3 months?

I would say "it depends" LOL Start when you are ready. If you feel like holding the new baby over a bowl to catch the meconium - by all means do so! And if you don't, then don't stress over it. Getting nursing established etc is far more important at that stage. Perhaps you might start slow - have the baby on an open nappy and cue at each wetting etc for a while then put the nappy back on. However, I did find that we had far fewer dirty nappies in the early weeks when I gave her a chance to go on the potty or in the sink or over the verandah railing :-) Beginning at 3mos old or so has one advantage - the wee frequency has dropped by then. It has a disadvantage in that many babies have become to some extent nappy-trained by then. If you have EC in your tool bag of things to use with your baby to meet their needs, then I think it is to both your and the baby's advantage. I do suspect, however, that you couldn't really turn off the little voice in your head that will tell you - "I think this baby is fussing because he/she needs to do a poo..." :-)
