Moving to their own room and/or sleeping thru the night updates
« on: October 23, 2008, 04:17:54 AM »

I thought maybe we could start a thread keeping up to date on how well our kids are doing at moving to their own room (older ones), their own bed, or sleeping thru the night (younger ones). I know I need this to track my kid's progress b/c it will help me stay focused on the positive and remember the big picture.

Jessica (almost 6yr):
--tells me when she is tired and ready for bed, usually at a reasonable time
--goes to sleep w/o any help from me
--has been sleeping in her own room for almost 2 weeks now
--once aleep, she stays asleep throughout the night unless something really loud wakes her (hardly ever)
It was such a struggle to get to this point, but now she's my easy child to get to sleep.  Grin

Emily (almost 4yr)
--still fights bed time
--still needs me to sit on her bed at night to help her to get to sleep (usually pat her back or hold her hand)
--has been sleeping in her own room for almost 2 weeks now
--still gets scared for a minute or two before bedtime about me not sleeping in the room w/ her
--once she is asleep, stays asleep throughout the night unless something wakes her (occasionally).

Zachary (18mos):
--still goes to sleep pretty regularly at night
--needs to be held while going to sleep
--I can usually get up from his bed and he'll stay asleep for an hour or two (his twin bed is on the floor of my room)
--he still wakes up several times a night...including needing a diaper change most nights!!!
--I believe he has only slept thru the night twice in his whole life;  I'm exhausted and ready for him to sleep (ok, it may be the fact that I had 2 other kids w/ sleep issues and I'm running out of patience, lol)

Ok, so that's the status here. How are things going in your house.  Also, Jessie was my absolute worst sleeper and now she's a great sleeper. So, there IS hope!

K Almost 4:

wow, they're almost 4!

Nurses to sleep almost every night.  My boobs are getting sore pretty quickly these days so I sometimes will insist that we just cuddle and he's been more and more OK with that.  We tried him sleeping in his bed and me in mine, but for the past few nights I've been sleeping in his bed because it's (a) warmer for me  Embarrassed I'm such a cold sleeper (b) easier than moving him once he's asleep because he needs to be at very least cuddling with me to fall asleep, which we were doing in my bed, but half the time I fall asleep anyway and then he's sleeping in my bed which is far less comfortable for both of us than his (he got the mattress, my bed is a gym mat) (c) easier for me to sleep through the night because when I'm not in bed with him he wakes up desperate to see and touch me.  All these things are surmountable, and we'll get there in time.  Right now I personally have so much going on that I find his company comforting and don't really have much energy for night time parenting.

Hope - that's awesome about Jessie.  It sounds like she's doing wonderfully!

Jocelyn -
- generally goes to bed easily; we read books and she goes to sleep on her own but once in a while she asks us to stay and rub her back
- will finally go to bed for DH with no hassle if I'm not home
- has always slept in her own room but went through a stage of crawling in bed with us nightly which has ended
- occasionally (maybe 2x a week) wakes and wants tucked back in during the night.
- back to napping a few times a week now that she is back in dc and I'm back to work

Jared
- swaddling
- sleeps in his crib (both of them seem to sleep better in their own space)
- bed at 6:45, wakes between 3:30 and 4:30 to eat and back to bed until 7
- naps pretty well; taking 3 naps a day most days

I have to get a better update posted but I have to get to bed tonight!
