The other thread had me thinking about this. B/c we all live in different areas, our kids will be starting kindergarten (the year before 1st grade) at different times. I mean Kindergarten, as in the typical US 5yr old class...I can't remember what Australia calls this. If your homeschooling, just put in when you plan to start K curriculum. I put the Jan options in b/c that's when I "think" the Australian school year starts. Is this correct, Megs?
In Indiana, the law is that kids have to turn 5yrs BEFORE Aug 1st. So, this means Emily can't go until Aug of 2010. Our school year starts right in the middle of August.

i think it'll be Jan of 2010. We call it prep year i think. technically Charlie is supposed to start in 2011 because of her month of birth but because we started her at 'Kindy' now, we skipped the formalities of that. She is the youngest kid at Kindy but so far ahead of many developmentally.

Shannon, I know a mix of HS people. Some go by the traditional school year, some start & stop academic years whenever it suits them, and some stick to a year-round schedule (so they have less "school time" to do every day). The great thing about HS is you can do whatever you want.

I voted for Aug/Sept 2010 because technically that is what she will have to be by state standards (5 by Sept 1) but there are several districts in the area that allow for K assessment to see if we could register her a year early.
I'm not sure if that is something we are going to persue but I'm keeping it in the back of my head at the moment. About 2 times a week Jocelyn will ask me when she gets to go to K because she wants to go to 'real school on the big bus'. Honestly, I think she will be bored out of her wits if she is almost 6 by the time she starts K. As far as academic stuff goes, I have no doubt that she could go in 2009. We'll be waiting to see if she would be emotionally/socially ready at that time.

In Mass, they let each district decide, and where we live now, he has to be 5 by Aug 31, so I also voted Aug/Sept 2010. Kerry
