I make kokonut milk, what's your superpower?

I have to say, I was quite ignorant before K was born. I thought ALL kids stopped nursing at around 2 years old. K fell asleep in my lap watching TV last night with no boob in sight, the very first time he's fallen asleep without nursing or being in the car seat or a couple of times in the swing when he was itty bitty. He was absolutely exhausted from 2 very long days and had nursed earlier in the night but had to get up to poo. Still, I feel like it's a step.
Are any of you dec 04 mamas still nursing your dec kid? can they fall asleep without it yet/?

AP Mama to 3 Kids

Nope, we stopped when Emily was 21mos old b/c I was pg again. It was gently-led weaning, she did pretty well during the gradual process, but it was still more instigated from me. I would have loved to have done child-led weaning w/ her but couldn't handle it w/ sore preggo boobs. I'm sure it's draining on you at this point. Do you plan to continue to nurse until he doesn't ask for it anymore, or do you think you'll start trying to wean him?

I definately withhold the boob during the day unless he needs a nap, or it's somehow warrented by the situation (he bit through his tongue, ate something too spicy, spent the day away from me and has come home cranky and miserable, etc) At night, though, there's really no end in sight, I literally can't visualize the process of even the most gentle weaning with either one of us getting nearly enough sleep. I'm not complaining, though. while sometimes I feel a tiny bit put out, or get uncomfortable explaining to people why I can't go out in the evenings, it just what we do and it works for us. Megs your post is funny. I don't feel drained at all, but maybe I just don't remember what it felt like to be not pregnant or nursing.

Not us. Ben weaned at 21 months when I was pregnant. It was just too painful to continue and he was down to nursing just once a day, first thing in the morning, so stopping altogether wasn't hard for either of us. He did try to nurse a couple of times after Lucas was born, but had forgotten how and I think he just wanted to know if he could, not that he really wanted to do it. I commend you for your continued commitment. Sadly, my nursing relationship with Lucas is almost over and he's not even 9 months yet. My period already returned (didn't until 11 months with Ben) and he's barely getting any milk from me now. I am still hoping to make it to a year even though we're only nursing at bedtime and nighttime now. Kerry
